What is thermal imaging?

Thermal imaging is a diagnostic tool that can be used to monitor and detect certain injuries and illness. Thermal imaging allows Dr Riggien
to pinpoint an area of pain, and possibly identify problems in the bone and soft tissue, as well as nerve damage.

How does it work?

Thermal imaging works with the use of a small passive sensor, which means that it is non-invasive and your animal can be monitored from a distance. The sensor picks up on temperature differences in the skin, and detects injuries such as:

• Muscle problems

Thermal imaging detects inflammation and atrophy in the muscles.

• Inflammation

Thermal imaging can be used to detect inflammation before it is clinically apparent.

• Nerve injuries

Thermal imaging can be used to see nerve injury as a result of trauma or disease.

• Secondary problems

Thermal imaging is very useful in picking up on problems that may be overlooked and which may affect your animal’s recovery.

What are the benefits?

Thermal imaging is non-invasive and does not cause any pain or discomfort. It does not require any sedation, and it is a mobile service, so your animal does not have to travel to receive the treatment.
